Crow pose can be entered either from malasana or chair pose. Crow is an arm balance, and as with other balance challenges, the performance might vary over the day. If you tend to face-plant in evening practice, try practice in morning or afternoon. Arms are bent in crow, and angle could be anywhere from 90 degrees (like chaturanga) to almost straight. If the arms are fully straight, it’s a crane pose or bakasana.

More challenging variations include crane pose (bakasana), flying crow pose and alternate grip. Outward grip might provide greater stability on uneven or moving surfaces (rocks, jetties etc).

Expert variation are reverse grip, crow or crane on fingertips and using crow to press into handstands.
