Any Toe Stand is great for activating Lower legs, and the double toe stand gives a calf activation that rivals pigeon tiptoe squats, but much safer for hips. What works for me is to keep long back, gaze forwards (looking of foot placement in mirror cause failure) and make sure the ground is flat.
And finally, I did both sides. One side is easier to me, but this is a great strength builder that does not leave the lower legs behind, and you want equal development of both calves.
