Also known as tolasana, lifted lotus or scales pose. It is the first arm balance taught in ashtanga yoga, and mastering it is a good foundation to learning other arm balances like crow and l-sit.

Utpluthih vs tolasana

Utpluthih means ”sprung up”, and is the same as tolasana when used on its own. However, utpluthih is also a suffix for lifted versions of other poses, like dandasana utpluthih as a designation for l-sit.

Rotate the lotus so one knee is behind one arm. This requires more strength than the regular utpluthih
